I was a nurse for 40 years and a teacher of nurses for 30 of those years, working at the University of Hull. I have worked with Vision 2020, the Royal College of Ophthalmologists, the Department of Health and NICE. My work took me to conferences around the world, providing the opportunity to meet local people and experience different cultures.
On the home front, I have always been a gardener and saw from an early age how great it is to be able to grow and pick your own fruit and vegetables, which I still do now. As I became more aware of climate issues, and tried to do what I could to help, I saw a need to raise awareness of the necessity for everyone to do what they can to limit global warming. So once retired, I joined ACT to help spread that message in any way I can.
I’m not the most knowledgeable on the technical matters, but I can research and make use of the information available. This helped in retrofitting my Victorian house when it was renovated, adding insulation, solar panels and batteries, and a heat pump. Hopefully, through ACT, we can work together to put the theory of becoming more sustainable into practice. I am also a director of ACT.
