I have a degree in economics and sociology and worked as a financial journalist for 40 years, primarily for the Financial Times. My skills lie in researching, analysing, writing and editing. I specialised in personal and institutional finance both as a writer and editor, and took a particular interest in ethical investment, “sustainable” finance and the rise of ESG (environmentlal, social and governance) investing. I long since concluded that financial companies are a big part of the problem we face, not the solution, and businesses will never voluntarily put people and planet ahead of profit.
I moved to Newton Abbot in 2017 and joined ACT when it was set up in 2019 to do something positive with my long-held concern about climate change. I co-lead the Public Engagement Group, help with the website, and am a director of ACT. I am also a parish councillor and editor of my local parish magazine.
